Automatic toilet for your beloved cat

Every owner has to clean up litter after petting, and, frankly, this procedure is not fun. An automatic litter box for cats is the best alternative to a regular litter box and allows the person not to participate in the cleaning process at all. With the help of the electrical system, the sewage cleaner is activated, which is discharged in the sewer. Let's take a closer look at what's so special about such cat litter.

How the automatic toilet works

Watering is necessary for proper operation – the sandbox must be connected not only to the power supply and water supply, but also to the sewer. Some devices are made in the form of a toilet and are generally not much different from an ordinary human bathroom. However, more often than not, automatic cat litter boxes are installed at a lower cost, thus requiring special pellets. They are very different from regular fillers, in that they are not sawdust and are not fillers that stick together into lumps. They are washable granules and do not need to be replaced.

The whole tray cleaning process is as follows:

  1. The liquid discharge from the granules goes into a separate compartment. After a certain period of time (and in some models – only after pressing the button), solid waste is removed with a special spatula into another compartment. Here they are crushed, combined with the liquid, and then discharged into the sewer.
  2. In parallel, the process of cleaning the granules occurs: water is poured with shampoo, the capsules of which are placed in the toilet.
  3. With a solution of shampoo and water, rinse all residue from the tank. In both cases, the water went into the drain afterwards.
  4. The granules and trays are dried with hot air, and then the filler is again poured into the container.

Cleaning is optional, depending on how long the timer will be set. Some devices are cleaned only after a button is pressed by someone, which is not always convenient. The automatic cleaning tray cleans 1 to 4 times a day.

More modern models are even equipped with special sensors. In this case, the cleaning is carried out a few minutes after the sensor has noted that there are no animals nearby. Thanks to the same sensor, the cleaning mode is selected automatically – maximum or minimum. The latter will suffice when the cat has just urinated on the tray. It cleans more vigorously if it expands large. How was the selection of the purge regime made? The sensor detects motion and, if the cat lingers near the sensor for more than 7 seconds, a more thorough cleaning is required.

The main types of self-cleaning litter boxes for cats

There are several types of automatic cat litter boxes:

  1. It is a completely autonomous system. Kit includes granules, adapter, detergent cartridge, hose. If you want to completely isolate the device and make it more aesthetically pleasing, you can order the house separately. Cleaning can be configured so that it will only start after the cat leaves the litter box.
  2. Of all the devices presented, this is most similar to a human toilet. This toilet doesn't require a filler or shampoo cartridge, just an electrical connection, a drain and water. Emergency batteries are provided here – their capacity will be sufficient in the event of a power outage for a year of operation, you only need to have access to the drain and water in the tray.
  3. The Cat Litter Box is the standard litter box. Like the others, it requires a connection to the service.
  4. Pretty Clean. The model looks like a round filled tray. At the specified time, it rotates around an axis and the spoon is immersed in the granules thereby removing all waste. Then transferred to a separate container. The liquid also flows into a separate compartment. This device has no access to drains and water, so someone ends up having to clean the tray.

Where is the best place to put the auto tray?

It is advisable to install a toilet for cats in the bathroom or, for example, in the bathroom, if it is more spacious, since the device itself must have access to the sewer. However, in such situations, you should always leave the door open so the cat can always use it if needed.

You can install the tray, if not in the form of a toilet bowl, in the corridor or in a secluded corner in the kitchen, the main thing is that all the necessary wires are connected to it. When deciding on an installation issue, you should proceed not only from the availability of free space, but also from hygiene considerations.

How to choose the right one and what to look for

You should base your choice on appearance, price range and required set of functions. If the wallet allows, you can choose a more expensive model that completely automates the process, looks aesthetically pleasing and completely eliminates unpleasant odors.

However, it is not necessary to spend a lot of money to get the same, but at a slightly lower price, so before buying, check all the features of the selected model.

Advantages and disadvantages

Automatic trays are a great solution for owners who don't have the opportunity to be at home often to properly monitor the cleanliness of a conventional litter box. And in this case, the mass of profits from the tray immediately manifests itself:

  1. There is no need to constantly spend money on fillers, because washable granules are used. Only cartridges with cleaning agents should be replaced, but this should only be done every 3-4 months.
  2. Suitable for use by many cats.
  3. Only safe components are used that do not have a negative effect on humans or animals.
  4. You don't have to keep the tray clean and perform this unpleasant procedure yourself. The exception, of course, is not a fully automatic tray.

Toilets for such cats also have their drawbacks. Specifically:

  1. Not all models are able to eliminate pungent odors. Models that are not connected to the sewer have a special compartment for collecting garbage. So, it smells bad till now, until you clean it.
  2. Self-cleaning is not possible if the water or electricity is out for a while.
  3. Some categories of trays are highly disliked by pussies due to the noise of the water.
  4. Loud noises when cleaning can scare cats away. Currently, there are models with motion sensors that correct the presence of a nearby animal and do not start the cleaning mechanism until the moment it leaves, but such a specimen is worth it.
  5. Adult cats often ignore litter boxes without litter, as there is no way to dig them to hide litter as usual.
  6. You will need to include additional water and electricity costs in your monthly budget. For more advanced models, a drain to the sewer is also required.
  7. Some trays will automatically start cleaning only when you press a button. In some ways, this is good, because the sudden inclusion will not frighten the pet, however, if the owner is not at home for a long time, then the usefulness of such a toilet remains questionable.
